For the detection of Clostridium perfringens in food.


SPS HiVeg™Agar is recommended for detection of Clostridium perfringens in food samples. This medium has HiVeg hydrolysate and yeast extract that supply nitrogenous compounds, vitamin B complex and other essential growth nutrients. Polymyxin B and sulphadiazine inhibit a wide variety of gram-positive and gram-negative bacteria. Organisms reduces sulphite to sulphide which reacts with iron of ferric citrate to form a black precipitate of iron sulphide and hence the colonies appear black. Clostridium perfringens and Clostridium sporogenes shows black co lored colony on this medium. This medium is prepared by replacing animal peptones with vegetable defined peptones to avoid BSE/TSE/GMO risk.
