Lead monooxide also called Lead (II) oxide , is the inorganic compound with the molecular formula PbO. PbO occurs in two polymorphs: litharge having a tetragonal crystal structure, and massicot having an orthorhombic crystal structure.
Lead monooxide is an oxide of lead with lead in +2 oxidation state. It is amphoteric in nature, capable of reacting with both acid and base. It exists in two forms, litharge and massicot. Lead (II) oxide is commonly used in making lead glass, lead white and red lead.
