Used as an efficient base for preparation of blood agar, chocolate agar and for various selective and identification media.

Columbia Blood Agar Base is used as the base for the media containing blood and for selective media formulations in which different combinations of antimicrobial agents are used as additives. This media is prepared by completely replacing animal or vegetable peptones with chemically defined peptones to avoid BSE/TSE risks associated with vegetable peptones.
