This medium is recommended for presumptive identification of coliforms from variety of specimens such as water, milk, food and clinical samples. This medium is a modification of MacConkey Medium where due to inhibitory effect of neutral red, it is substituted it by the less inhibitory Bromocresol purple dye. BCP is more sensitive in recording pH variation in the medium
