Directions
Open the pouch aseptically. Open the lid and add the required dilution of 0.5 ml to 1 ml. The solution will be evenly absorbed. Close the lid. Press the sides of the lid to ensure that it is fixed in the grooves. Allow 5-10 minutes for even absorption. Incubate the plates in horizontal position at specified temperature and period. After incubation, count the number of colonies which have appeared on the surface of the medium.
Principle And Interpretation
Salmonella are gram negative, anaerobic, non sporulating rods in the family Enterobacteriaceae present in the stomach and intestinal tissues of human & animals and are found in their wastes. Salmonella species cause many types of infections from mild, self-limiting gastroenteritis to life threatening typhoid fever. It is also present in different food and meat samples. This medium is based on chromogenic differentiation wherein Klebsiella and Enterobacter species gives blue coloured colonies. E.coli gives colourless to light mauve coloured colonies, Proteus gives light brown coloured colonies. All Salmonella species gives purple coloured colonies.

Specimen Collection and Handling

After use, contaminated materials should be autoclave at 121°C for 15 minutes before discarding.
Warning and Precautions
Read the label before opening the container. Wear protective gloves/protective clothing/eye protection/ face protection. Follow good microbiological lab practices while handling specimens and culture. Standard precautions as per established guidelines should be followed while handling specimens. Safety guidelines may be referred in individual safety data sheets.
Limitations
- Do not use diluents containing citrate, bisulfite or thiosulfate; they can inhibit growth.
- Individual organisms differ in their growth requirement and may show variable growth patterns on the medium.
Performance and Evaluation
Performance of the medium is expected when used as per the direction on the label within the expiry period when stored at recommended temperature.

Storage and Shelf Life
Store between 2-8°C. Use before expiry date on the label. Product performance is best if used within stated expiry period.
Disposal
User must ensure safe disposal by autoclaving and/or incineration of used or unusable preparations of this product. Follow established laboratory procedures in disposing of infectious materials and material that comes into contact with sample must be decontaminated and disposed of in accordance with current laboratory techniques (1,2).
