L.D. Egg Yolk Agar Base is used for detecting lecithinase activity of anaerobic microorganisms. L. D. Egg Yolk Agar with Egg Yolk Supplement contains egg yolk, which is the source of lecithin in the medium. Magnesium sulphate helps in sporulation. Disodium phosphate buffers the medium. Clostridium perfringens are Lecithinase positive, Lipase negative and does not show proteolytic activity. Fusobacterium necrophorum are Lecithinase negative, Lipase positive and does not show proteolytic activity.
