For the isolation and cultivation of extremely halophilic bacteria.

Halophilic Broth is recommended for the isolation and cultivation of extremely halophilic bacteria. It has 25% sodium chloride. For optimum growth they require high salt concentration of about 20 - 30%. Organisms that can tolerate this high concentration of salt can grow on this medium. It has Acicase™, proteose peptone and yeast extract which provide all the necessary nutrients, mainly nitrogenous, carbonaceous coumponds, long chain amino acids. and vitamins to the halophilic bacteria. Sodium citrate is added to avoid the losses. Magnesium sulphate, sodium chloride and potassium chloride are essential ions required for the growth of extreme halophiles. Halophiles such as Halobacterium salinarium, Halococcus morrhuae etc. can grow on this medium.
