For the isolation of streptococci, especially Streptococcus mitis , Streptococcus salivarius and Enterococcus faecalis from grossly contaminated specimens.
Mitis Salivarius Agar is recommended for the isolation of streptococci, especially Streptococcus mitis, Streptococcus salivarius and Enterococcus faecalis from grossly contaminated specimens. Addition of potassium tellurite selectively isolates streptococci by inhibiting a wide variety of bacteria. Streptococcus salivarius can be differentiated as blue coloured colonies typically showing a gumdrop appearance while Enterococcus faecalis grow as blue-black coloured colony.
