Brilliant Green Phenol Red Lactose Agar is recommended or selective isolation of Salmonella species from water samples.This medium is formulated according to Edel and Kampelmacher for selective isolation of Salmonella species from water. It is recommended by ISO specifications ISO 6340; 1995 / IS15187; 2002. This medium contains Lactose and sucrose as fermentable sugars, Phenol red is the pH indiactor and Brilliant green is the selective agent. Salmonella growth is identified as red or slightly pink-white coloured opaque colonies with red surroundings on this medium. Liquid enriched culture from enrichment medium is inoculated on this medium.
