Photobacterium Broth is used for cultivation and demonstration of luminiscence of photobacteria. The light-generating enzyme called luciferase is responsible for luminescence. Luminescent bacteria divert upto 10% of their respiratory enzyme into a specific metabolite pathway that converts chemical energy into visible light. Lucibacterium harveyi, Vibrio fischeri are known to produce luminiscence.
