Sph I

Restriction enzymes are essential tools in molecular biology because each recognizes a unique DNA sequence and precisely cuts the double-stranded DNA molecule into smaller, distinct fragments. Sph I is a Restriction Endonuclease purified from an m Streptomyces phaeochromogenes strain that carries the Sph I gene. The restriction enzyme Sph I recognizes the DNA sequence G C A T G^C and optimally cleaves the DNA at 37°C when used with 10X Assay Buffer. Sph I is a type II restriction endonuclease that generates 3' cohesive overhangs for molecular assembly. This Restriction Enzyme enables DNA Digestion at the GCATGC Recognition Sequence to facilitate Recombinant DNA Vector Construction and directed gene cloning.
