Tris is the common name of tris (hydroxymethyl) aminomethane. It is a primary amine and is effective as a buffer in the pH range between 7.0 and 9.2. Tris does not precipitate calcium salts and maintains solubility of manganese salts. It has a low UV absorbance but strong temperature sensitivity. This buffer is supplied as 0.5M.
