Tris is the common name of tris (hydroxymethyl) aminomethane. It is a primary amine and is effective as a buffer in the pH range between 7.0 and 9.2. Tris does not precipitate calcium salts and maintains solubility of manganese salts. It has a low UV absorbance but strong temperature sensitivity. This buffer is supplied as 1M. 1M Tris-Cl, pH 7.6 is a concentrated buffering solution used to maintain physiological stability in nucleic acid and protein mixtures.
