ACD (Acid Citrate Dextrose) Solution B is an anticoagulant solution used for the collection of blood for purposes of storage and transfusion. This solution contains citric acid, sodium citrate and dextrose. Citrate ions chelate ionized calcium present in the blood and forms a non-ionized calcium-citrate complex. When the total dose of citrate ions is greater than the total amount of ionized calcium, blood clotting is prevented. ACD Solution B is supplied as a sterile and ready to use form.
