Directions
Suspend 46.0 grams in 1000 ml distilled water. Heat if necessary to dissolve the medium completely. Sterilize by autoclaving at 15 lbs pressure (121°C) for 15 minutes. Mix well and dispense as desired.
Principle And Interpretation
SF Broth Modified is modification of original SF broth formulation by Hajna and Perry (1) for faecal streptococci in the swimming pools, water and milk samples. SF Broth Modified is developed for detection of Enterococci in diagnostic work.
Casein enzymic hydrolysate and yeast extract provide necessary nutrients like nitrogenous compounds and vitamin B complex. Sodium citrate is an inhibitor for gram negative bacteria. Glucose is the fermentable carbohydrate source in the medium. Dipotassium and monopotassium phosphate help in buffering the medium.
