Bordet Gengou Broth is recommended for the selective enrichment of Bordetella pertussis and Bordetella parapertussis. Sterile, fresh defibrinated blood (sheep, rabbit, human or horse) is required for enriching this medium .Cephalexin is added at a concentration of 40 mg/litre (FD004) to this medium. The medium is highly nutritious containing Potatoes infusion and peptone thus supports luxuriant growth of Bordetella species and can also be used for mass cultivation of B. pertussis for vaccine production and for maintaining stock cultures. Sodium chloride maintains osmotic balance of cells.
