Lysis Solution (HP2) is a buffer solution used for the purpose of lysing recombinant E.coli cells for the isolation of plasmid. This is extensively used in molecular biology experiments. This solution is strongly alkaline and contains a detergent. The detergent solubilizes the phospholipids and proteins of the cell membrane which results in cell lysis. The high alkaline concentration denatures the genomic and plasmid DNA.
