Christensen Citrate Sulphite Agar, w/ 1.5% Agar is recommended for differentiation of enteric bacilli on the basis of citrate utilization and hydrogen sulphide production in accordance with FDA BAM, 1998. Phenol red acts as indicator showing positive reaction by changing color orange red to cerise. Strong positive cultures upon prolonged incubation turn the entire butt black. Shigella spp shows negative reaction for Citrate Utilisation and H2S. Klebsiella, Escherichia, Salmonella shows positive reaction for Citrate Utilisation and H2S.
