Directions
Suspend 20.0 grams in 1000 ml distilled water. Heat to boiling with agitation to dissolve the medium completely. Sterilize by autoclaving at 15 lbs pressure (121°C) for 20 minutes. Cool to 45-50°C. Mix well and pour into sterile Petri plates.
Principle And Interpretation
This is a simple medium containing Gelatin peptone (pancreatic digest of gelatin). Gelatin peptone provides complex carbon and nitrogen sources necessary for microbial growth. It has low cystine and tryptophan content. As it contains only gelatin as ingredient it makes media nonselective in nature. The neutral pH of medium allows growth of bacteria . Hence it can be used for plate count, particularly of ice cream and related products. This medium can be used is recommended particularly for growing nonfastidious organisms. Agar acts as a solidifying agent.
