20X SSPE is supplied as a concentrated prepared buffer for use in nucleic acid hybridizations and blot transfer applications. SSPE contains EDTA, which is a chelator of divalent metal ions, Mg2+, and in turn efficiently inhibits DNase activity that can decrease probe and target DNA concentrations during Southern hybridization. This buffer is also used in bacterial screening and hybridization procedure.
