Klebsiella pneumoniae causes urinary tract infections, nosocomial pneumonia and intra-abdominal infections. The majority of infections are of epidemic origin, and treatment has become difficult because many strains are resistant to a wide range of antibiotics, including broad-spectrum b-lactams, aminoglycosides and fluoroquinolones. Klebsiella pneumoniae survives for prolonged periods under a wide range of environmental conditions. Klebsiella spp. contains gene phoE with sequences unique to this organism and has been proved as a suitable PCR target with potential diagnostic applications. This kit is recommended for sensitive detection of Klebsiella pneumoniae in clinical samples and food samples .
