Basic fuchsin is a mixture of rosaniline, pararosaniline, new fuchsine and Magenta II. When basic fuchsin is combined with sulfurous acid, it leads to formation of fuchsin sulfurous acid, commonly referred to as Schiff’s reagent. This is used in histological or cellular staining of nucleus (chromosomal DNA).
