Technical Specification

Appearance: (USP) Pale bluish-green crystals or granules. Oxidizes readily in moist air to form brownish yellow basic ferric sulfate
Appearance: (EP, BP) Light green, crystalline powder or bluish-green crystals, efflorescent in air. Ferrous sulfate heptahydrate is oxidised in moist air, becoming brown.
Appearance: (JP) Pale green crystals or crystalline powder. It is efflorescent in dry air, and its surface becomes yellowish brown in moist air.
Appearance: (IP) Bluish green crystals or a light green, crystalline powder. Efflorescent in air. On exposure to moist air, the crystals rapidly oxidise and become brown.
Solubility: (USP) Very soluble in boiling water, freely soluble in water, insoluble in alcohol
Solubility: (EP, BP) Freely soluble in water, very soluble in boiling water, practically insoluble in ethanol (96%)
Solubility: (JP) Freely soluble in water, and practically insoluble in ethanol (95%), and in diethyl ether
Solubility: (IP) Very soluble in boiling water, freely soluble in water, practically insoluble in ethanol (95%)
Identification : (JP) Gives the reaction for ferrous salt and for sulphate
Identification : (IP) Gives reaction (A) of ferrous salts and the reactions of sulphates
Identification A Iron, ferrous salts and sulfate : (USP) Meets the requirements
Identification A, Sulfates : (EP, BP) Gives the reactions of sulphates
Identification B, Iron : (EP, BP) Gives the reaction (a) of iron
