For the performance of Kanagawa test to identify virulent Vibrio parahaemolyticus strains.


Wagatsuma HiVeg™ Agar Base is recommended for performance of Kanagawa test to identify virulent Vibrio parahaemolyticus strains. Medium is enriched by adding Addition human red blood cells or defibrinated sheep blood. The crystal violet acts as inhibitor to the gram-positive bacteria. High salt concentration and alkaline pH makes the medium selective for V. parahaemolyticus. Enteropathogenic V. parahaemolyticus, virulent trains are Kanagawa positive and produce haemolysin, which forms a transparent, clearing zone of blood cells around the colony while avirulent strains of Vibrio parahaemolyticus ATCC 11344 shows negative reaction.
