Columbia C.N.A. HiVeg™ Agar Base w/ 1% Agar is recommended for selective isolation of pathogenic Gram-positive cocci from clinical and nonclinical specimens. The addition of the antimicrobial agents, colistin (or polymyxin B) and nalidixic acid, renders the medium selective for gram-positive microorganisms. Blood supplies X-factor and V-factor necessary for the growth of many fastidious bacterial species. Columbia C.N.A. Agar Base on addition of blood and antimicrobial agents facilitate selective isolation of gram-positive cocci, Staphylococci and Streptococci. This medium is prepared by replacing animal peptones with vegetable defined peptones to avoid BSE/TSE/GMO risk
