Loeffler HiVeg™ Medium Base is recommended for cultivation of Corynebacterium diphtheriae from clinical specimens and in pure cultures, detection of chromogenesis, proteolysis and the production of ascospores. Addition of sterile Horse Serum (RM1239) enriches the medium. It is recommended to be used in parallel with Serum Tellurite Agar for selective isolation of Corynebacteria. The high serum content favours determining proteolytic activity of organisms. It can also used for demonstration of pigmentation and ascospores. This medium is prepared by replacing animal peptones with vegetable defined peptones to avoid BSE/TSE/GMO risk.
