Directions
Suspend 20 grams in 1000 ml distilled water. Heat to dissolve the medium completely. Dispense as desired. Sterilize by autoclaving at 15 lbs pressure (121°C) for 15 minutes.
Principle and Interpretation
Disinfectant Test HiVeg Broth is prepared by using HiVeg peptone and Hiveg extract in place of Peptic digest of animal tissue and Beef extract respectively making the medium free of BSE/TSE risks. Disinfectant Test HiVeg Broth is the modification of Disinfectant Test Broth (1, 2) used for testing disinfectants and especially for determining phenol coefficients of disinfectants.
The medium contains ingredients like HiVeg extract and HiVeg peptone which provide necessary nutrients to the growth of test organisms like Salmonella serotype Typhi, Pseudomonas aeruginosa and Staphylococcus aureus. Presence of sodium chloride balances the osmotic equilibrium.
