10X Tris EDTA, pH 9.0 buffer is composed of a buffering agent Tris and chelating agent EDTA. EDTA prevents the degradation of DNA and RNA by chelating magnesium or other divalent metal ions. Treatment with TE buffer enhances the staining intensity of antibodies in the immuno-histochemical detection of certain proteins. Tris-EDTA based buffers unmask antigens and epitopes in formalin-fixed and paraffin-embedded tissue sections by disrupting the protein cross-links. For this reason this product is widely used as a target retrieval solution during immunohistochemical staining procedures as it enhances the staining intensity of antibodies.
