Recommended for detection and enumeration of total coliforms and E.coli based on chromogenic differentiation in water and food . It contains two chromogenic substrates. The enzyme ß-D-galactosidase produced by coliforms cleaves one of the chromogen to form salmon to red coloured colonies (5). The enzyme produced by E.coli, cleaves X-glucuronide, the other chromogen. Colonies of E.coli gives dark blue to violet coloured due to presence of ß-D-glucuronidase and ß-D-galactosidase. Sodium lauryl sulphate inhibits gram positive bacteria. On addition, on Kovacs reagent, formation of cherry red colour indicates a positive indole reaction. Sterile pad is supplied in sterile disposable bag. Membrane filter is not supplied .
