Hi-PCR® Vancomycin Resistant Enterococci (VRE) (Multiplex) Probe PCR Kit

Enterococcus spps. are normally indigenous bacteria found in the gastro-intestinal tract and female genitals, but recently they are recognized as major pathogens causing urinary tract infections and sepsis by nosocomial infection. Increasing number of strains are growing resistant to Vancomycin, which is used in the treatment of Enterococci infection. These Vancomycin Resistant Enterococci (VRE) tend to multiply rapidly due to the high frequency and continuous use of vancomycin making it important to detect and treat infection by these pathogens on time. Polymerase Chain Reaction (PCR) is an alternative method that allows for sensitive and specific detection of Vancomycin resistant genes i.e. vanA and vanB genes and Enterococcus spps. from clinical samples / cultured isolates.
