Human papillomavirus (HPV) infection is caused by a human papillomavirus, a DNA virus from the papillomavirus family, of more than 200 related viruses and is the most common sexually transmitted infection (STI). While most HPV infections are benign causing warts (papilloma’s) on areas of the body including the hands, feet and genitals, certain strains put a person at a higher risk of developing particular types of cancers. HPV infection is limited to the basal cells of stratified epithelium, the only tissue in which they replicate.Hi-PCR® Human Papilloma Virus (HPV) Genotyping (Multiplex) Probe PCR Kit is intended for use by qualified laboratory personnel trained in Real-Time PCR. The kit is recommended for sensitive and specific genotyping of HPV-16 and HPV-18 in clinical samples.
