A longstanding diagnostic challenge for fungal infections is to identify an infecting fungal pathogen in early stages and rapidly assess its susceptibility to antifungal drugs to facilitate appropriate therapy. In fungal infections, even when positive, results usually take longer than a week because these organisms are difficult to identify and/or are slow-growing. This has led to the development of culture-independent diagnostic tests such as PCR. The Internal Transcribed Spacer (ITS) regions of fungal ribosomal DNA (rDNA) are highly variable sequences of great importance in distinguishing fungal species by PCR analysis. Hi-PCR® Fungal ITS SYBr PCR Kit is designed to specifically amplify a region (approx. 290bp) within the fungal rRNA.
