Bromophenol blue is used as a pH indicator, an electrophoretic color marker, and a dye. It can be prepared by slowly adding excess bromine to a hot solution of phenolsulfonphthalein in glacial acetic acid.Bromophenol blue is structurally related to phenolphthalein.
