Calcium hypochlorite is an inorganic compound with formula Ca(OCl)2.used for water treatment and as a bleaching agent.It is a white solid, although commercial samples appear yellow. It strongly smells of chlorine, owing to its slow decomposition in moist air.


Bleaching powder is also known as Calcium hypochlorite has oxidizing properties. It participates as an oxidant in the preparation of diamine-benzoquinone polymers.Calcium hypochlorite is generally used for water disinfection and as a bleaching agent.
