Sodium salicylate belongs to the class of nonacetylated salicylates.Sodium salicylate can be prepared from the reaction of salicylic acid and ammonia. It exhibits fluorescence at higher concentrations and effectively absorbs β-particles.
Sodium salicylate is the active ingredient in aspirin, commonly used as antipyretic, anti-inflammatory and analgesic drug. Sodium salicylate when taken in large quantities causes temporary hearing loss and tinnitus. Prolonged treatment with sodium salicylate reduces output from cochlea permanently, reduces compound action potential amplitude in vivo and neural degeneration in vitro
