Human Vascular Endothelial Growth Factor (VEGF) is a homo-dimeric heparin binding glycoprotein. It stimulates proliferation and survival of endothelial cells and promotes angiogenesis and vascular permeability. VEGF has a profound mitogenic effect on cultured endothelial cells. It promotes endothelial cell migration and sprouting and can be used as a component of growth medium for endothelial cell culturing.
