Geneticin (G418) blocks polypeptide synthesis by inhibiting protein elongation by binding irreversibility to 80S ribosomes both in prokaryotic and eukaryotic cells. Gentamicin-Amphotericin B Solution is sterile filtered containing 30mg/ml Gentamicin and 25µg/ml Amphotericin B in sterile tissue culture grade water.

Gentamicin is a broad spectrum bactericidal agent of aminoglycoside group and is effective against gram positive bacteria and gram negative bacteria. Amphotericin B (also referred as Fungizoneâ„¢) is an antimycotic agent which is effective against fungi and yeasts. Amphotericin B binds with ergosterol and interferes with the cell membrane permeability of sensitive fungi and yeasts. The channels in the cell membrane cause leakage of cytoplasmic content leading to fungal death. The use of Gentamicin-Amphotericin B (GA) is recommended to inhibit potential fungal or bacterial contamination of eukaryotic cell cultures.
