Salmonella is a gram-negative facultative intracellular pathogen. In humans, they are the cause of two diseases called salmonellosis: enteric fever (typhoid) and acute gastroenteritis. The Salmonella family includes over 2,300 serotypes of bacteria of which Salmonella enteritidis and Salmonella typhimurium are responsible for over 50% of all human infections. The iroB gene that is used in Hi-PCR® Salmonella SYBr PCR Kit for the identification of Salmonella spp. is conserved and unique to Salmonella genus. This uniques target sequence with potential applications helps in accurate and quick detection of Salmonella serovars in food and clinical samples.
