Leifson HiVeg™ Agar is recommended for the isolation of Salmonella and Shigella species. The medium allows differentiation of lactose fermenting bacteria such as Escherichia coli from non-lactose fermenting species such as Salmonella and Shigella species. This medium is prepared by replacing animal peptones with vegetable defined peptones to avoid BSE/TSE/GMO risk.
