Indicator Microbes & Pathogen
Indicator organisms are the groups of microorganisms that are used to assess the hygienic status of food. Their presence does not necessarily indicate the presence of pathogenic microorganism e.g. Enterobacteriaceae , Escherichia coli, which are non pathogenic. The group includes both pathogenic and non-pathogenic bacteria. Bacteria such as Coagulase positive staphylococci, Clostridium perfringens, Bacillus cereus, Vibrio parahaemolyticus, Campylobacter, Salmonella species, Listeria monocytogenes (CPS) etc are the examples of pathogenic bacteria. In order to detect the indicator microbes and pathogens in food, HiMedia has developed a complete range of Culture Media used in the food industry.
